Internships
Sehgal Foundation is the initial point of contact for students, faculty, and study-abroad administrators at North American academic institutions interested in internship placements at S M Sehgal Foundation in India. Sehgal Foundation facilitates planning for internships, as well as for study-abroad group visits and research collaborations.
S M Sehgal Foundation’s team has extensive experience with guiding internships virtually and in person for Indian and foreign students. The foundation welcomes the fresh ideas and energy that student interns bring to the work. There is no fee for internships, virtual or in-person. Students from many academic fields can learn from and contribute to the foundation’s rural development work.
Internships in the summer of 2024 will be in person. Virtual internships can be arranged for students during spring and fall academic semesters.
If interested in an internship in rural development, see the policies and a list of proposed topics posted by clicking the link below.
Interns bear their international travel costs, international health insurance, and incidental expenses. Accommodations for students, when available at SMSF’s Gurugram headquarters, are in single rooms with private bathrooms in a LEED platinum Green building on the secure campus. Best practices to prevent COVID-19 are followed on campus.
SMSF work in India focuses on community-led development in the areas of water, agriculture, citizen participation including women's leadership skills, and improving government schools. The outreach team runs a community radio station. Research teams work on impact assessment and rural development issues.
Internship Opportunities
"I learned so much about community building and climate resilience during my internship with the Sehgal Foundation, and I am so grateful for the relationships I was able to build during this time. The Sehgal Foundation is such a welcoming and supportive place to work, and the eight weeks I spent with them were an incredibly enriching experience."
--Siobhan Hull, Cornell University, 2022 summer intern in India
